I've never painted indirectly before. Actually, I wasn't even aware that it was a popular method of oil-painting. All of a sudden, the turpentine that I had been using solely to correct misplaced brush strokes, sketch loosely, and clean my brushes became a far more significant instrument in the orchestra that was painting. I must admit, however, that I am quite enjoying it. I'm reminded somewhat of watercolor painting, which was really my second love (after pencil, of course).

We began with a grisaille underpainting. This process has been quite enjoyable. I don't really like drawing still life with pencil (although it's rewarding, it's equally tedious), but doing so with oil paint is somehow pleasant. I've been building up the values over several studio days, and here I have attached several images depicting that slow escalation:

I think I'll start glazing the color on Monday. I worry that I'll ruin the painting, but fingers are crossed!
