Process Post: Oil Painting Part 2

I've attached several images. Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to take a photo of the finished painting, as I was quite engrossed in making the most of the little studio time we had (and yes, one of my biggest regrets from this project remains not finding time outside of class to fully refine this piece). What I have attached below include the last bit of the grisaille underpainting, which I was extremely pleased with, and perhaps one studio day's worth of layering with color.

I don't have a photo of the final painting, as I mentioned, but here I will describe it to you to the best of my abilities and my thoughts on the process. Later, when I have procured a photo, I shall update my gallery and this post as well.

Basically, the background ended up being not dark enough. The cast shadows of the objects totally disappeared, and the light source isn't really clear either. Also, I didn't get a chance to totally finish the coin purse, so it's just a slop of colors (for now).

What did work was the lipstick and bottle of turpentine, albeit the turp definitely needed a touch of pure titanium white for highlight purposes. Those I spent the most time on, so I suppose they came out better than the other objects. The only thing is, I'm not entirely happy with the lipstick, as I just don't feel the colors are fully accurate to reality.

All in all, I learned a lot from this project, and bad experience is still experience, and one can never get enough experience...!
